Natural vs Synthetic Latex

Natural latex is derived primarily from rubber-tree sap. Synthetic latex is produced from petrochemical feedstocks. Blended latex combines natural and synthetic material.

Do not confuse composition with process

Natural/synthetic describes what the foam is made from. Dunlop/Talalay describes how latex foam is manufactured. A shopper can encounter combinations of both concepts.

What to verify

• Does the manufacturer state the latex composition?
• Does a certification apply to the latex?
• Is the claim about one layer or the complete mattress?
• Is the percentage of natural content disclosed?
